about
Heroically Lost, Heroically Found is a coming of age novel in melodic form. Using lyrics inspired by personal experience and tempered through the lens of myth, Heroically Lost, Heroically Found is an effort to describe the cycles of death and rebirth that mark the major events in our lives. It is largely acoustic, with a few songs punctuated by slide guitar, the sense of isolation only momentarily revealed with the inclusion of a full band on some of the more upbeat songs. Dreamy harmonies create an other worldly feel that draws the listener into the world of the songwriter.

The album is arranged to mirror a folk tale. It begins light with The Cycle, which acts as a Greek chorus to set the scene and hint at what it to come. Loft in Seattle comes second. It is what I like to think of as the "Someday My Prince Will Come" piece of the album. Imagining an idyllic future, the "hero" longs for a soul mate at sets out for the city only to find that once you leave all you have known, you can never return the same. The Prodigal, the third song on the album, describes the isolation and loneliness that mark that departure. Fourth is The Holes in Myself. Having taken the opportunity of isolation to re-examine her past the "hero" discovers that she has been the victim of her own projections, lost in illusions that she her self had created. The album continues with further decent into the otherworld and eventual rebirth with the tenth song, " Hearts Try Their Wings", a subdued but honest love song about celebrating the time we have with those we love, even if it does not last forever.

Named after a line in W.B. Yeats poem " A Crazed Girl", Heroically Lost, Heroically Found uses melody and mythologically inspired lyrics to explore the events that mark our progressions as human beings, all narrated by smokey contralto vocals. It's' final message, though not the unrestrained optimism of the album's opening, is one of hope and purpose.
